Hope Garden Club

Mushroom carving, by Carey Demmitt

Hope Garden Club meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month, at 7:00pm at Hope Secondary School, 444 Stuart St. during the school year, Oct to May, with garden visits during the summer months (June to Sept). In August we have a potluck BBQ, and in December we have a potluck Christmas party. There is no meeting inĀ January. Membership fee is $10.00 per year, and membership includes a discount at some local garden shops. For more information, phone Helen at 604-869-9665.

There are guest speakers several times a year, that provide interesting information on various aspects of gardening.

The Garden Club has two fundraisers per year – a Plant Sale and raffle in the Spring; and the Raffle and garden display at Brigade Days. Proceeds are used to provide a bursary for a Hope Secondary School graduate to pursue education in Agriculture or Horticulture.

The Raffle will be drawn at 3:30pm on Sept 10, 2011 at Brigade Days, at the Sixth Ave Park fairgrounds. Tickets are $2.00 each, available from Penny MacLeod at 604-860-4993, and from other Garden Club members, as well as at the Garden Club booth at the fairgrounds on Sept 10. Garden Club members provide displays of flowers, fruit and vegetables, etc; and small plants and gardening magazines will be available by donation.
